Town Justice Vacancy
The Town Justice presides over criminal and civil matters filed in Town Court; exercises preliminary jurisdiction over felonies and trial jurisdiction over misdemeanors, traffic infractions, code violations, evictions and small claims actions. Prior professional experience with the legal process, criminal and civil procedures will be beneficial. Any applicants not currently registered with the New York State Bar must take and pass a 5 day in-person certification class before being eligible to preside. The Court is in session on Thursday evenings, although arraignments and warrant applications will be required when Court is not in session. State law requires that applicant must reside within Town of Waterford, be 18 years of age and not be convicted of any felonies.
The current vacancy will be filled by an appointment by the Waterford Town Board. However, this is an elected position for a term of 4 years and candidates will be required to run in a townwide general election.

THE TOWN OF WATERFORD HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT
The Town of Waterford Court is looking for a part-time court clerk.
A court clerk is responsible for maintaining records of a court and to assist the judges with their administrative functions. Specific Duties entail but are not limited to: Assisting the full-time court clerk with preparing dockets/calendars of cases to be called and utilizing a variety of computer software and case-management systems. Will be required to answer inquiries from the general public regarding judicial procedures, court appearances, trial dates, adjournments, and other court-related matters, including handling payment of court fines and fees.
Training will be provided, although familiarity with court procedures will be helpful. Must have strong communication and inter-personal skills. Time commitment is expected to be 15 hours per week, with schedule to include 2-3 days per week, along with Thursday evenings during court session until 8-9 p.m.
