Bike Safety Event May 21, 2022 from 10am to 1pm

The Waterford Police Department will be holding a Bike Safety Event at Canal Fest on May 21, 2022 from 10am to 1pm. Free bike helmets and Stewart's Shops ice cream passes will be given away to children who participate in the event.

Throughout the next few months Officers will be handing out Stewart's Shops ice cream passes to children they see wearing a helmet while riding their bikes. These ice cream passes were donated by Stewart's Shops to help promote bike safety.

                                                                        COVID Vaccination Clinic- June 14, 2022  Waterford Community/Senior Center

A COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will be held at the Waterford Community/Senior Center on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.  This is made possible through the coordination of the Town of Waterford, Marra's Pharmacy in Cohoes and the Saratoga County Public Health Department.  First, second doses and boosters are available.  You must sign up prior to June 14th.  To register, please call the Center at 518-235-8500.  A COVID-19 Questionnaire must be completed prior to receiving the vaccine/booster.  Blank forms are available at the Waterford Community/Senior Center. Please bring insurance information on day of the clinic.


The Water Commissioners will be flushing hydrants 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM starting April 25th through May 27th 2022.  Water at times may be discolored, but at no time will bacterial quality be affected. Laundering should be AVOIDED during flushing hours

Free Covid-Test Kit Pickup 

Waterford residents can pick up a free Covid test kit at the Waterford Town Clerk’s Office, 65 Broad Street, Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm.  Proof of residency required.

Public Safety Message on Upcoming Traffic Safety Initiatives- 3/11/22

“The Waterford Police Department will be participating in the “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” (April 4th-11th 2022)- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) promoted distracted driving enforcement wave.

Every year the Governors Traffic Safety Committee supports and promotes Operation Safe Stop. Passing a stopped school bus is dangerous and puts our children at high risk when they get on or off the school bus.  Thursday April 28th, 2022 is OPERATION SAFE STOP DAY, and the Waterford Police Department will be participating in the one day enforcement effort. 

The Waterford Police Department will be participating in the “No Empty Chair” Safe Teen Driver enforcement initiative during the week of April 25th –April 29th, 2022.  Officers will be focusing on different traffic safety initiatives throughout the week, to include: Speeding in School Zones, Seatbelts and Child Restraints, Cell Phone Use and Texting and Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving.   

The Waterford Police Department will be participating in the upcoming (NHTSA) Click It Or Ticket, Buckle Up New York, Seat Belt Mobilization Enforcement Dates — May 23rd – June 5th, 2022.”

The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) helps low income households pay the cost of drinking water and wastewater services. The program can assist households who have past due bills (arrears) for drinking water and/or wastewater services. 25 Years of Helping Seniors and People with Disabilities Maintain their Homes and Independence. Umbrella is a membership organization. For an annual fee, Umbrella members have access to a screened, skilled group of handy persons who provide a variety of services, including home repairs, housekeeping, lawn and gardening and shopping. Update on the  Friedrichsohn Cooperage Contaminated PCB Cleanup Project

Update as of December 7, 2021

The removal of contaminated soil is complete and equipment is currently being removed. Restoration of the towpath will begin by December 17th.  The coffer dams will be removed in January as well as the work trailers.  In the Spring, the area will touched up with topsoil and seeds.
