Dear Friends and Neighbors,
On behalf of all the people who are part of town government, please accept our fondest wishes that you and your families enjoy a very healthy and prosperous new year in 2020. The arrival of a new year is an opportunity for us all to look back on our accomplishments in 2019 and to outline our goals and plans for 2020.
2019 was a very successful year for the Town of Waterford. We completed the most extensive paving program in town history, including over a dozen streets in the Northside area and the Suncrest development. We completed renovations and improvements at the Hurst Harbor Visitors Center that supports our very successful community festivals, weekly Farmers Market, and is a popular attraction for residents as well as visitors experiencing the Erie and Champlain canals.
We celebrated the 20th anniversary of Tugboat Roundup, our premier festival which attracts thousands of people to our community each year. The second annual Dragon Boat Festival, with over 250 participants, raised more than $10,000.00 in donations to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s fight against breast cancer.
We have learned firsthand how important it is to have redundant sources of potable water. In 2019, we completed the connection of a new waterline over the new Cohoes-Waterford Bridge to make certain that our community does not again suffer an interruption of our water supply from Troy if required. This new connection with Cohoes can supply the water needs of our entire community.
In 2020, we will see the continuation of infrastructure improvement projects, including the completion of the Mohawk Gateway Streetscape Project. The project includes new lighting, landscaping, and new crosswalks which will greatly improve pedestrian safety on Saratoga Avenue from Clifton to Fulton Streets. 2020 also will include much needed renovations to the second floor of Town Hall, making repairs to preserve this historical nature of the building while improving and modernizing the facilities.
Our outstanding Police Department will receive upgraded technological tools in 2020, including new dashboard and body cameras for our officers along with new laptops for each of our four patrol vehicles. Our police Department earned the high honor of “Accredited Police Department” in 2015. This designation is awarded by peer review of the department’s policies and procedures and is awarded to only the most professional departments. The accreditation was for a 5-year period ending in 2020 and our Department is committed to again achieving this high honor in 2020.
I would like to extend my appreciation to all my fellow officials, employees and volunteers whose efforts made for such a successful 2019. Again, our best wishes to you all for a wonderful new year in 2020!
Our Hearts and prayers are with our Troops all over the world!
